PRINT & GRAPHIC DESIGN
CSUN Urban Forestry Initiative is a transformative effort focused on restoring the environment and enriching communities in the San Fernando Valley. Partnering with the Fernandeño Tatavian Band of Mission Indians and backed by a $5 million USDA grant, the initiative is a model of combining traditional ecological knowledge with cutting-edge climate data. It aims to combat climate change by planting 750 culturally significant native trees, developing a tribal nursery, and offering workforce programs that inspire stewardship among underserved youth.
My role included creating the visual identity, designing posters, and curating social media content to reflect the initiative's mission and values. Through a cohesive style guide, impactful visuals, and educational outreach, the campaign conveys both the importance of environmental restoration and the dedication to fostering empowerment and resilience in marginalized communities.
Visual Identity Rebrand

With the mission of the CSUN Urban Forestry Initiative defined, I developed the style guide using graphic elements provided by the project team. Drawing inspiration from the blend of traditional and contemporary ecological practices, I crafted a visual system that speaks to both cultural heritage and environmental innovation. Earthy tones and organic textures reflect the land’s history and the nurturing of native plant life, while modern, clean typography communicates the initiative’s forward-thinking goals. Together, these design elements form a cohesive identity that emphasizes both restoration and resilience.

Social Media Templates

I designed the social media templates to feel both grounded in tradition and forward-looking, reflecting the values of the CSUN Urban Forestry Initiative. The clean, adaptable layout allows for a variety of content, from educational posts to community updates. Earth-toned backgrounds and minimalist graphics convey a sense of warmth and purpose, while imagery of native trees and cultural motifs highlight the project’s connection to the land. The result is a luxurious yet accessible aesthetic that invites engagement and fosters a deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship.
Poster Designs

I designed the posters to embody the initiative’s connection to heritage and environmental impact, using CSUN's bright color guidelines to add vibrancy and coherence. With bold, natural tones and culturally significant symbols, each poster is both visually striking and informative. Clean, adaptable layouts allow key messages to stand out, while thoughtful imagery of native trees and community members anchors the project’s goals in real-world impact. This approach ensures the posters are impactful and approachable, encouraging community engagement with the mission of restoration and resilience.
